STEP-BY-STEP VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS & TIPS
In this workshop, I’m going to show you in detail how I make my own spiraled sketchbooks, sewn sketchbook, and concertina sketchbooks (also known as accordion style sketchbooks). These are my favorite type of sketchbooks, they’re wonderful to work in and easy and pretty quick to make when you know how!
I believe and know from experience that making our own sketchbooks is key in building a regular sketching habit, since you eliminate all the frustration related to the type of support you’re using. With a DIY sketchbook you can choose the size, the type of paper, the size of the pages, and create personalized covers that you love! Nothing that you can do with a store-bought sketchbook.
As a matter of fact, I don’t feel drawn to store-bought sketchbooks as much as I’m crazy excited to grab my own handmade sketchbooks and start drawing and painting!!

Step-by-step instructions in real time (not accelerated) to make your own sketchbooks in three different styles (spiraled, sewn, concertina). You’ll learn techniques that will allow you to use different types of paper for the covers, choose your closure, and decide which type of pages you want in your sketchbook.
Perfect for beginners
All levels are welcome. This craft workshop is beginner-friendly, as you can go at your own pace, and I’ll guide you through the whole process without skipping any step.
TOOLS & MATERIALS NEEDED
We are going to create our sketchbooks with simple materials like thick cardboard and watercolor paper.
Depending on the type of sketchbook that you decide to make for yourself, you’ll need different tools and materials like glue and papers, but they’re all simple materials that you may already have in your studio, or are quite inexpensive to buy at your local art and craft store. If you make spiraled sketchbook journals, you’ll need to take them to your local print store to be spiral-bound. Sewn sketchbooks and concertina sketchbooks, instead, can be totally made at home.
