In this workshop, I’m going to show you in detail how I make my own spiraled sketchbooks, sewn sketchbook, and concertina sketchbooks (also known as accordion style sketchbooks).
Making your own sketchbook is easy, deeply rewarding, and the ultimate secret to stay consistent with your daily creative practice.
When you create your own books, you eliminate all the frustration related to the type of support you are using. You hold absolute control: you choose the exact size, the perfect watercolor paper, and a personalized cover that you truly love. Nothing on a commercial store shelf can ever compare to that feeling.
As a matter of fact, I don’t feel drawn to store-bought sketchbook journals anymore.

Perfect for beginners
All levels are welcome. This craft workshop is completely beginner-friendly, as I’ll guide you through the whole process without skipping a single step.
TOOLS & MATERIALS NEEDED
We are going to build our sketchbooks using simple, accessible materials like thick cardboard and your favorite watercolor paper.
You’ll also need other basic supplies like glue, paper, a metal ruler and utility knife. Most of these are inexpensive or already waiting in your studio drawers!
If you decide to make spiraled sketchbook journals, you’ll need to take them to your local print store to be spiral-bound. Sewn sketchbooks and concertina sketchbooks, instead, can be totally made at home by your hands.
